چکیده

This paper examines the tradeoffs between different classes of sensing strategy and motion control strategy in the context of terrain mapping with multiple robots. We consider a larger group of robots that can mutually estimate one another’s position (in 2D or 3D) and uncertainty using a sample-based (particle filter) model of uncertainty. Our prior work has dealt with a pair of robots that estimate one another’s position using visual tracking and coordinated motion. Here we extend these results and consider a richer set of sensing and motion options. In particular, we focus on issues related to confidence estimation for groups of more than two robots .

Map-merging in Multi-robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping Process Using Two Heterogeneous Ground Robots

In this article, a fast and reliable map-merging algorithm is proposed to produce a global two dimensional map of an indoor environment in a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) process. In SLAM process, to find its way in this environment, a robot should be able to determine its position relative to a map formed from its observations. To solve this complex problem, simultan...

Effects of Moving Landmark’s Speed on Multi-Robot Simultaneous Localization and Mapping in Dynamic Environments

Even when simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) solutions have been broadly developed, the vast majority of them relate to a single robot performing measurements in static environments. Researches show that the performance of SLAM algorithms deteriorates under dynamic environments. In this paper, a multi-robot simultaneous localization and mapping (MR-SLAM) system is implemented within a...

On Localization and Communication Issues in Pursuit-Evasion Games

A probabilistic pursuit–evasion game from the literature is used as an example of a multi-robot system. The model is extended with particular focus on localization errors and communication limitations. These constraints are important in real multi-robot systems, but has often been neglected in previous studies. It is shown in the paper how multi-robot systems outperform single robots, also in t...

Multi-Centralized Cooperative Localization under Asynchronous Communication

In this report we present an overarching framework for inter-robot information transfer schemes in Multi-Centralized Cooperative Localization (MC-CL) under asynchronous communication, i.e., when the communication graph associated with the mobile robot network is time-varying and intermittently disconnected. Specifically, two information transfer schemes, that differ based on their communication...

A Robust Extended H∞ Filtering Approach to Multi-Robot Cooperative Localization in Dynamic Indoor Environments

Multi-robot cooperative localization serves as an essential task for a team of mobile robots to work within an unknown environment. Based on the real-time laser scanning data interaction, a robust approach is proposed to obtain optimal multi-robot relative observations by using the Metric-based Iterative Closest Point (MbICP) algorithm, which makes it possible to utilize the surrounding environ...
